KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghan Women’s Institute for Peace and Freedom on Monday called on the government officials not to stop women’s work and education and identify and punish perpetrators of violence against the gender.

A few days back, Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman of the government said at a meeting in Kabul that all  education centers would be opened for girls and women would be also provided with job opportunities in the government with the beginning of coming solar year.

The Afghan Women’s Institute for Peace and Freedom today in Kabul celebrated 16 days campaign of eliminating violence against women.

A resolution released by the institute states that they celebrate the campaign in a situation when Afghanistan was in a serious economic crisis as most of people lost their jobs and girls are deprived of going to schools and universities.

The source asked the international community to closely follow the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women in Afghanistan and women should not be deprived of their rights.

“We ask for the restoration of women’s rights and their prominent role in all social, political, economic, religious and cultural areas of the country based on the Islamic rules and within the framework of international law to which Afghanistan is annexed…” the source said.

The institute asked the new administration to activate special courts to address violence against women in all 34 provinces of the country.

“The high graph of violence against women is depended on awareness of people, particularly women, who have little awareness about their rights based on Islam and human rights resolutions,” the source added.

Abidah Majidi, deputy head of the institute, talking to Pajhwok Afghan News said, “Islam has given rights and respect to women, women also have the right to work whether it is in politics or commerce or any other activity…”

She said that all people should work for elimination of violence against women and prevent violence against the gender in families and the society.
