GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Doctors of the provincial civil hospital in southern Ghazni province spend most of the time at their private clinics instead of the hospital where they only come to sign attendance, local residents say.

The hospital director acknowledges the problem and says such doctors are first warned and if they do not correct themselves, they are fired from the job.

Wahidullah, a resident of Ghazni City, told Pajhwok Afghan News his son was admitted in the hospital three days ago but he was only once checked by a doctor and he was yet to be given any medicine.

“A doctor examined by son at noon and there was no doctor at the hospital until 11am next day. These doctors have private clinics where they spend most of their time.”

He said most of the doctors came to the hospital just to sign attendance and spent most of the time at their private clinics.

Ahmad Shah, a resident of Giru district, held similar complaint. He brought a patient to the hospital a few days ago, but his disease could not be diagnosed due to negligence of doctors and he was forced to take his patient to a private clinic.

He added that doctors at the provincial hospital had multiple jobs and were not available at the hospital even during official hours.

According to him, some doctors encourage patients to go to their private clinics for better diagnosis and treatment.

A few days ago, a dispute broke out between the authorities and a doctor over the same issue and the doctor was beaten.

A staff member at the provincial hospital, who did not want to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Taliban beat a doctor named Salam Rahmani as he was at his private clinic during official time and rarely visited the hospital.”

But officials have not officially commented.

Maulvi Mohammad Hanif Misbah, director of the Ghazni provincial hospital, acknowledged the problem, saying he would first summon such doctors and then warn them that they would be fired if they did not improve.

He added that he would no longer sign contracts with such irresponsible doctors as it was a violation of the people’s rights.

He assured that these and other problems would be solved so that better health services could be provided to the people.

It is worth mentioning that a few days ago, the residents of Ghazni also complained about the improper services at the gynecology department of the provincial hospital and said that doctors and midwives do not pay attention to the health of mothers and children during childbirth.
