KABUL (Pajhwok): The UN has removed the names of former president Ashraf Ghani and foreign minister Hanif Atmar from its leadership list.
The list published on the UN website has replaced the names of the former president and foreign ministers with the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan.
This comes as the former government and the incumbent acting administration are competing for Afghanistan’s seat at the United Nations.
Afghanistan’s permanent mission recently said the country’s deputy ambassador to the UN, after recovering from his illness, had resumed work as ambassador, replacing Naseer Ahmad Faeq.
But Faeq wrote on his Twitter handle that he was still Afghanistan’s ambassador to the UN and was representing the country at the multi-national forum.
