KABUL (Pajhwok): The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced sending a consignment of raw materials to Afghanistan as part of humanitarian aid to the war-devastated country.
The ministry in a statement said that the plane carrying the aid would fly to Kabul today, Tuesday
The shipment of aid is reportedly expected to arrive in Afghanistan on a special flight via India and Pakistan.
The statement from the Malaysian foreign ministry said the aid package included five tons of winter clothes, blankets, milk powder and other essential items for the needy and children of Afghanistan.
The source said that the aidwould be distributed to the people through non-governmental organizations.
There are currently a number of Malaysian NGOs working to provide humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.
A day earlier, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan met with acting Afghan foreign minister, Amir Khan Mottaqi and said that his country would open an office in Kabul to coordinate aid and economic cooperation in Afghanistan.
Malaysia also offered assistance to Afghanistan in the areas of infrastructure development, health, education, mineral extraction, telecommunications and energy.
