Kunduz blind people seek solution to their problems

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): A number of people with visual impairment in northeastern Kunduz province on Wednesday asked the government to address their economic problems and provide them with education and job opportunities.

The blind people complained that bad economic situation from one side and disability from another have added to their challenges and made their life difficult.

Zabihullah, a blind man in Kunduz, said: “We call on the government to make it easier for us to work and study. We must be accepted in society, no one in the society care about us and they even harass and humiliate us.”

Abdul Rashid is another blind man who complains about the challenges of life and says that economic problems have forced him to begging.

“A disabled person has to beg due to huge problems they face, the Swedish Committee provided us only with education, it does not resolve our economic problems, people with disabilities should be paid care,” he said.

Hasibullah, a 27 years old man, who lost his eyesight several years ago, teaches Braille in the Swedish Committee for the blind.

“Economic challenges, deprivation of the right to work, education, the mistreatment of some people with visual impairment, lack of access to textbooks for the blind, lack of science and computer science education, lack of professional teachers, weak confidence among the blind are main problems,” he said.

MatiullahRouhani, information and culture director of Kunduz province, said that the Martyrs and Disables Department of the province was trying to respond to the problems of all people with disability and provide them with work and education opportunities.

There is currently only one educational center for the disabled in Kunduz province that is supported by foreign institutions.
