PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Department of Information and Culture in northern Baghlan province says it is striving to reopen closed media outlets.

Maulvi Mustafa Hashimi, director of information, made the remarks during an exclusive interview with media representatives in Pul-i-Khumri.

He said the media outlets, supported by certain circles after the fall of the previous government, had been closed.

“No media organisation has been shut down by the new government. We have met all media officials several times and have asked them to resume their activities,” he added.

Hashimi reiterated they were doing their bit revive media outlets, which must not publish things that were in conflict with values of Afghan society.

The director called on all journalists to write news and views under their real names, because the government did not threaten anyone.

Hamid Sherzai, head of the Adeeb Radio station, told Pajhwok they had stopped their activities due to a severe financial crisis.

“Once our electricity supply problem is resolved, our radio station will soon return to the airwaves,” he remarked.

Abdul Wahid Wahdat, a journalist working for the Salam Watandar Radio, hit out at government officials for refusing to share information in a timely manner.
