KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan will play a five-match T20 International white-ball series against Ireland in August, says a media report.

Cricket Ireland (CI), announcing the home series, said Afghanistan’s tour was initially scheduled to include a Test match and three ODIs.

But those fixtures will now be rescheduled to a future date, according to ESPNcricinfo. Ireland believes T20I fixtures would be important ahead of October’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

Ireland qualified last week for mega event after finishing as runners-up in Qualifier A in Oman.

Richard Holdsworth, high-performance director for CI, said: “It’s a great rivalry that has developed over the years between Ireland and Afghanistan…”

Holdsworth thanked the Afghanistan Cricket Board for its support in getting this series approved.

The two sides will play the first T20I August 9, the second on Aug 11, the third on Aug 12, the fourth on Aug 15 and the 5th on Aug 17. All matches will be played at Stormont.
