KABUL (Pajhwok): Two Afghan athletes, Nayab Mobarez and Safiullah Ghafari, have won silver and bronze medals respectively at the 58th Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships in Thailand, while Mobarez has also been named Asia’s Best Bodybuilding Athlete for 2026.
The Afghanistan National Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation said in a statement that on the third day of the Asian Championships, Ghafari won the bronze medal in the over-100kg category, securing third place in the division.
The federation added that Mobarez finished second in the 90kg category and won the silver medal. He was also named Asia’s Best Bodybuilding Athlete for 2026 based on the votes of all judges at the competition.
The federation said Abdul Shakoor Payman also competed in the event and secured fifth place in the over-90kg category.
According to the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports, the 58th Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships began on September 22 in Bangkok, Thailand, with athletes from 24 countries taking part. The competition will continue until September 28.
A 13-member Afghan bodybuilding and fitness team is participating in the championships.
