PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A terrorist belonging to the Islamic State group has been killed in an intelligence-based operation in Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar.

The Counter-Terrorism Department said that the operation was jointly conducted by police, CTD and intelligence personnel in Omar area.

The security forces raided a hideout of militants in the area on the outskirts of Peshawar on the basis of an intelligence report.

The security personnel were tipped off regarding the presence of Khalid, Daniyal, Hassn Shah and other insurgents in the locality.

The raiding party traded fire with the terrorists for about two hours. One militant named Daniyal was killed in the exchange of fire while three others escaped.

CTD claimed Daniyal, associated with IS-K, was involved in a deadly suicide attack on a Shiite mosque in Peshawar. At least 67 worshippers had been killed in the bombing.
