KABUL (Pajhwok): Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has voiced concern at the ill-treatment of Afghan refugees in Iran.
At a meeting with Iranian Ambassador Bahador Aminian in Kabul, the minister called for the neighbouring country not to violate the rights of Afghan refugees.
Muttaqi argued the harassment of Afghan refugees in Iran gave the enemies the opportunity to damage Kabul-Tehran relations.
In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Muttaqi asked Iran to instruct relevant security officials to prevent the abuse of Afghan refugees in border areas.
For his part, the Iranian ambassador also expressed concern at the killing of two clerics and a servant at the shrine of Imam Reza.
Calling Afghan refugees Iran’s guests, he said over the last 43 years, the Iranians had amicably interacted with them.
The Iranian government did not want to mistreat the Afghan refugees and sought to build trust with Afghanistan, he said, promising to convey Kabul’s message to Tehran.
