LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The father of five malnourished children in Nawa district of southern Helmand province has received financial assistance after a Pajhwok Afghan News report in this regard.

The report said Mullah Mohammad Zahir, a resident of the district, who is also the imam of a mosque, has five children who were malnourished and he was unable to support them.

Many people, including the governor of Helmand, gave him financial support since the report was published.

Mullah Mohammad Zahir told Pajhwok Afghan News that he has been the imam of a mosque in the Kharaba area of Nawa district for years and that his children were suffering from malnutrition due to poverty.

“Two years ago, my three children were born prematurely in hospital,” he said. “Ten months later God blessed me with twin children who became malnourished due to lack of adequate food.”

According to him, in recent days, some people, including the governor of Helmand, provided him with cash assistance.

He also mentioned that Dr. Baktash, a Dutch resident, donated 10,000 afghanis to him and promised to provide the same amount every month for the nutrition of his malnourished children.

He thanked those who came forward to help his family and called on other wealthy citizens to reach out to the poorest families, including his own, who are living in dire economic straits.
