KABUL (Pajhwok): Petrol and diesel rates jumped by five percent in Kabul in the past couple of days as major world events and the unstable exchange rate of the afghani continues to impact energy related materials worldwide.
The Ahmad Yar Group said the price of one litre of diesel stood at 79 afs and the same quantity of petrol at 73 afs in Kabul on May 9.
On May 8, the price of one litre of diesel was 78 afs the same quantity of petrol accounted for 67 afs in Kabul.
One kilogram of gas sold for 66 afs two days back but on May 9 the price surged to 70 afs.
Ahmad Wali, employee of the Ahmad Yar Group of Stations, said: “There is a decline in imports. In the past, low-quality oil was imported from Iran and that has been banned now.
“Now quality oil is imported from Turkmenistan and this is the main reason behind the surge in petrol prices.”
Mohammad Mashooq, worker of a pump station in Dehbori area, said the war between Ukraine and Russia pushed up prices of petroleum products.
Haji Hussain, owner of the Sadaqat Money Exchange Service in Sara-i-Shahzada, said one dollar accounted for 78 afs on May 9, down from 86 afs on Monday.
As a result of the Russian-Ukraine conflict, global crude oil rates continued to fluctuate.
As of May 6, one barrel of oil accounted for $112 but three days later, the rate came down to $110.37 in the global market.
