KABUL (Pajhwok): Economy Minister Mullah Qari Din Mohammad Hanif and a Bangladeshi delegation of scholars, traders, industrialists and investors discussed expanding economic and trade ties and increasing investment between Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

In a statement, the Ministry of Economy said Hanif met with members of the Bangladeshi delegation on Wednesday and discussed expanding economic and trade relations and investment between the two countries.

The ministry said Hanif welcomed the delegation’s visit and discussed investment opportunities in agriculture, mining, industry, energy, domestic production, transit and trade.

According to the statement, Hanif described expanding economic relations with regional countries, developing trade and attracting foreign investment as key priorities of Afghanistan’s economy-focused policy.

He said stronger economic cooperation between Afghanistan and Bangladesh could, in the medium and long term, help increase trade and investment, create jobs, boost domestic production and expand Afghanistan’s exports.

The statement added that the Bangladeshi delegation, comprising traders, industrialists and investors, expressed interest in expanding economic and trade relations with Afghanistan and shared their views and proposals with the Ministry of Economy on areas of cooperation and investment.

The two sides stressed strengthening ties between the private sectors of the two countries, identifying new areas of economic cooperation and facilitating direct talks between Afghan and Bangladeshi traders, industrialists and investors.
