TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The Information and Culture Department of central Uruzgan province says efforts to convince former government officials to return to their country have been accelerated.

Many officials of the former government migrated to foreign countries after the arrival of the Islamic Emirate.

Mohammad Asif, director of information and culture in Uruzgan, said at least 10 former government officials had returned to their areas and started a normal life following the efforts of the governor’s house, the virtue and prevention of the vice department, and tribal elders in the past two weeks.

He said the returned individuals were former deputy police chiefs, heads of police stations, districts’ police chiefs, and head of the intelligence.

He added these former officials were the residents of different areas and reunited with their families.

According to Asif, efforts to return individuals who fled after the arrival of the current government have been accelerated. He added most these individuals were living in Pakistan, Iran and other countries.

He called on other such individuals in other countries to return to their country and start a normal life.

One of the returned individuals, who wished to go unnamed, told Pajhwok he had gone to Iran after the Taliban took power and he faced ill-treatment in Iran and he tolerated hardships.

“I am provided the opportunity to live in my native area with the help of elders, I met the officials of Islamic Emirate here and they assured me that I live a normal life in my home.”

Residents of Uruzgan welcomed this step of the officials and urged that all the military and ordinary individuals in abroad must be brought back.

Ismatullah, a resident of Tirinkot City, told Pajhwok that the officials must accelerate the return of former officials and did not push the country to another war. He also called on former officials to return to their homes and begin a normal life.

Two months ago, the government formed a commission to facilitate the return of the Afghan figures who had migrated abroad.

The commission is headed by Maulvi Shahabuddin Delawar. Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, Information and Culture Minister Mullah Khairullah Khairkhwa, chief of General Directorate of Intelligence Mullah Abdul HaqWasiq, Minister of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, Chief of Army Staff Qari Fasihuddin and senior advisor to Interior Ministry Mohammad Anas Haqqani are the members of the panel.
