JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Six armed robbers who extorted money and other valuable things from people in the name of police have been arrested in eastern Nangarhar province, the Intelligence Department said on Monday.
The arrested persons were paraded before reporters during a press conference here.
Nangarhar Intelligence Director Dr. Bashir told the press conference that last week security forces arrested six armed robbers who were active in Jalalabad city and different districts.
He added: "These men committed armed robberies in the name of the Islamic Emirate of Mujahideen, and in some areas they used to set up checkpoints in the name of security forces."
According to Dr. Bashir's information, a number of weapons and ammunition have also been recovered from the detainees.
He assured the residents of Nangarhar of safe security and also insisted on the arrest of armed men and bandits who were creating problems for the people by taking advantage of the name of the Islamic Emirate.
The residents of Jalalabad city also complain about the presence of illegal gunmen.
Safiullah, who was deprived of mobile phone and cash by armed robbers in the fourth district of Jalalabad city two nights ago, says the government should stop illegal armed men from looting people in the city.
He added: "It was eight. I was on my way home when I stopped by two armed men on motorcycles. They introduced themselves as Taliban and forcibly took my mobile phone and cash."
It is to be noted that even before this, armed groups were arrested in Nangarhar who created problems for the people using the name of the security forces.
