3 persons whipped publicly in Nangarhar for adultery

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Three people, including a woman, were lashed 39 times each in a sentence handed down by the urban court of eastern Nangarhar province for having illicit relations.

The Press Office of the Urban Court of Nangarhar in a press release today said the three people were convicted of having illicit relations by the Criminal Division of the Urban Court on Sunday.

It said the accused were arrested in a house and they had confessed to their crime (adultery) during the preliminary investigation, but later denied it in the court hearing.

The press release said the persons were found guilty of living in a house without a mahram and were given a penal sentence.

The judicial session of the court decided to award the mentioned people 39 lashes each which was also accepted by the offenders.

The convicts were summoned yesterday and in public, the head of the urban court Maulvi Aman Haqqani lashed each person 25 times and the head of the criminal court, Maulvi Amin Gulab Amin lashed each person 14 times.

Nangarhar Information and Culture Department’s media coordination officer, Qureshi Hamat, also confirmed the whipping to Pajhwok, but did not give details.
