KABUL (Pajhwok): Renowned academic figure Syed Amin Mujahid died last night of cancer in a Birmingham hospital.
His relative and a member of Afghanistan Academy of Sciences Syed Nazim Syedi told Pajhwok Syed Amin Mujahid had worked for many years in various institutions.
He died last night due to cancer in a hospital in Birmingham, London, Syedi said, adding that due to some considerations, it was difficult to send his coffin to Afghanistan.
However, he said Mujahid’s funeral in absentia would be offered in Miran village of Kot district of eastern Nangarhar province, his ancestral place. His remains will be transferred to Virginia, USA and temporarily buried there.
Syed Amin Mujahid had served in various institutions of Afghanistan, including National Radio and Television, Military University, Independent Election Commission, Human Rights Commission, Academy of Sciences and worked in a number of ministries.
A number of writers and culturists called the death of Syed Amin Mujahid a loss for the history and culture of Afghanistan and said the vacuum created with his death could not be filled for a long time.
