Business dwindles for application writers in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Application writers in southern Kandahar province complain their work has declined at a time when a number of unemployed individuals have also started the profession.

Most application writers, who sit in front of government offices, say the number of applicants has declined compared to the past.

Mohammad Qasim, one of the application writers in front of the Kandahar Governor Office, said from the past five years he had been associated with this business.

He said: “In the past, I wrote up to 10 applications but now I write up to four applications daily.”

He said a large number of unemployed educated people had started writing applications for people, affecting their business.

He also said in the past regime there were more work and opportunities for which people would write applications but currently activities had declined.

He recalled in the past when people referred to a government institution, their work was done in three to four days but now applications were not processed for weeks.

Rohullah, another application writer, said their work had halved compared to the past and even they could not provide bread for their families.

He said in the initial days of the current government, the number of applicants surged but now it had reduced to a greater extent.

“Applicants tell us that their applications are not processed for weeks in government institutions.”

Qudratullah, another application writer, said he studied two faculties but started application writing due to unemployment.

Some Kandahar residents also complained against the slow-paced processing of their documents.

Hikmatullah, a resident of Kandahar City, said they referred to Kandahar Governor House for help three times, but his application was not responded.

“I don’t have bread for the evening, I wrote three applications to the Governor House, I also lost my Tazkera which was attached to the documents but nobody responded.”

But Governor Spokesperson Haji Zaid said every application was responded at its appropriate time.

He said all applications were responded on their turn and sometimes a response to an application could be delayed due to a large number of applications.

Currently, the number of application writers reached 100 people in Kandahar. They write each application against 50 afs and pay five afs against each application paper to the Ministry of Justice.
