PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The distribution of the Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) vaccine has started in central Logar province, an official said on Sunday.
Mawlavi Sayed Amin Hashimi, director of Agriculture and Livestock Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the LSD vaccination campaign launched in Pul-i-Alam and six districts and financially supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO).
He said about 9,000 cows would be covered by this vaccination campaign. Hundreds of cows contracted the disease and dozens died in Logar.
Haji Hussainkhel, owner of cattle in Pul-i-Alam City, told Pajhwok that he was pleased that all his cows were vaccinated against LSD.
Mohammad Anwar, a resident of Mohammad Agha district, said his cow died few days ago due to LSD because the vaccine did not reach on time.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MoAIL) also said that it has launched distribution of 125,000 doses of anti-LSD vaccines in Kapisa, Parwan, Logar and Maidan Wardak provinces.
LSD is a contagious disease in animals and is mainly spread by insects such as flies and mosquitoes.
