Former Afghan police officer gunned down in Quetta

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Former deputy police commander of Panjwai district of southern Kandahar province, Abdul Samad Achakzai, has been killed by unknown gunmen in Quetta city of Pakistan’s Balochistan province.

Achakzai, a resident of Panjwai district and also commander of Afghan Local Police (ALP) during the republic regime, was gunned down yesterday in Eastern Bypass area of ​​Quetta city.

Akhtar Mohammad Badezi, adviser to the former president of Afghanistan on civil affairs, told Pajhwok Afghan News Achakzai moved to Quetta after the collapse of the former regime.

He added Achakzai had served as deputy police commander of Panjwai district and then as ALP commander.

Badezai claimed Pakistan’s intelligence agencies were involved in the assassination of Achakzai, but Pakistani authorities have so far said nothing about the incident.

Some residents of Quetta said Achakzai was shot and killed by armed motorcyclists near his house in the Eastern Bypass area of ​​the city.

An eyewitness of the incident, who did not want to be named, told Pajhwok over the telephone that Achakzai was killed by armed motorcyclist in Perqani Street yesterday morning when he came out of his house.

The body of Achakzai remained lying at the incident site for several hours before police came and took the body away.

Residents of Panjwai of Kandahar say Abdul Samad Achakzai served as local police commander and deputy Panjwai police commander.

Allah Nazar, a resident of Panjwai district, told Pajhwok Afghan News: "Some people were happy but some unhappy with Achakzai as a police commander because he showed no mercy to the armed opponents of the regime and those who had relations with them."

Achakzai was killed days after he published a video clip on social media, denouncing the suicide attack on the Kaj Education Center in Kabul. he said he would continue to serve his country like he did in the past.
