KABUL (Pajhwok): Japan has assured Afghanistan of continued cooperation with the Afghans in various sectors while stressing the need for upholding human rights, an official said on Thursday.

The assurances came during a meeting between Japanese Ambassador to Afghanistan Takashi Okada and Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi on Wednesday.

On its Twitter handle, Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi wrote: “The ambassador assured the continuation of Japan’s cooperation with the people of Afghanistan in various sectors, underlining greater attention to human rights.”

While commending humanitarian assistance from Tokyo, Muttaqi sought Japan’s cooperation with Afghanistan on infrastructure projects, stressing the completion of unfinished initiated by the late Dr. Tetsu Nakamura.

Muttaqi elaborated on IEA’s achievements in the economic sector, approval of the government’s budget with no foreign aid, revenue collection, the fight against drugs, the treatment of drug addicts and human rights.
