KABUL (Pajhwok): In compliance with orders from the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate, the General Directorate of Municipalities has been dissolved.
Under the previous government, mayors of all 34 provinces were independent, working under the supervision of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG).
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) had initially renamed the IDLG as the General Directorate of Municipalities.
But the fresh order from the IEA supreme leader says all provincial and district municipal directorates may continue working under provincial governments.
The order adds a joint delegation of the Administrative Affairs Office, the Interior Ministry, the Finance Ministry and the General Directorate of Municipalities will register all tangible and intangible assets of the dissolved administration.
The assets will be handed over along with relevant documents to the Administrative Affairs Office at the Presidential Palace, according to the decree.
The order continues the budget of the dissolved directorate for the solar year 1401 should be transferred to the Administrative Affairs Office.
Pajhwok Afghan News sought comments on the issue from IEA deputy spokesman Bilal Karimi, but he is yet to respond.
The interim government, after its takeover in August 2021, has dissolved a number of government entities and merged them with other organs.
