Faizabad residents facing drinking water shortage

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Some residents in Faizabad, the capital of northeastern Badakhshan province, have complained against the none-availability of drinking water saying natural resources of drinking water had been frozen as well due to severe cold.

Naqibullah, 40, the resident of Faizabad’s 7th Municipal District, said over the past four days natural resources of water were flowing periodically in their area which had been stopped due to severe cold weather.

He added a deep drinking water well existed three kilometres away from their area and daily hundreds of people go there to get water for themselves.

Abdul Fahim Saeedi, the resident of Faizabad’’s 1st Municipal District, said after clean drinking water cannot be found they have no option but to use contaminated water due to which their family members may fall sick.

He asked the government to provide clean drinking water to some Faizabad residents through water tankers until the situation improved.

Information Director Maazuddin Ahmadi acknowledged the problem of drinking water faced by the people and added the weather was very cold.

He said they were worried about the problems faced by the people and asked well off individuals to help other people in their neighbourhood.

He did not talk about the distribution of water through tankers.
