PARAKH (Pajhwok): The Revenue Department in central Panjsher province has collected 32 million afghanis revenue during the first three quarters of the ongoing 1401 solar year.

Maulvi Gul Ahmad Hanafi, director of customs, told a coordination meeting with local official, that most of the revenue was obtained from emerald mines. However, he did not elaborate.

He said: “Most of the revenue came from emerald mines which are currently closed and they made a large part of Panjsher’s revenue.”

Hanafi did not provide figures for the previous year’s returns.

He urged cooperation of other departments in revenue collection and said reconstruction and timely arrival of employees’ salaries were directly related to revenue collection.

Rahim Gul, a shopkeeper, said: “They took 11,000 afghanis from me, the shop rent is also high, the government should reduce the tax.”

However, Zikrullah, who owns a small shop in Rakh district, says: “Taxes keep the government’s affairs running and strengthen the system”.
