16 people whipped in Helmand over theft, adultery

LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Sixteen people were publicly whipped in the Greshk district of southern Helmand province on Thursday after being convicted of theft and adultery.

Maulvi Mohammad Qasim Riaz, Deputy Director of Information and Culture Department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the court sentenced the 16 individuals to lashes.

He said each convict was lashed 30 to 39 times.

About three weeks ago, 20 people were lashed after being convicted by the Helmand Appeal Court of different crimes.
