KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has reduced custom duty on six food items from 17 to 80 percent to provide relief to the common people in the holy month of Ramazan.
On its Twitter handle, the ministry wrote: “For the respect of the holy month of Ramadan, the MoF has reduced custom duty on six food items”
The step had been taken in consideration of the economic situation of the people and to prevent hike in the prices of these items.
The six essential food items included potatoes, tomatoes, okra, apple, date and watermelon.
Ahmad Wali Haqmal, spokesperson for the MoF, said custom duty on flour and cooking oil had been already reduce due to which the prices of these items was low in Afghan market compared to Pakistani and Iranian markets.
