US trying to meddle in Afghanistan’s affairs: Lavrov

KABUL (Pajhwok): Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claims there is solid evidence of the US trying to interfere in Afghanistan again, a media report said on Saturday.

Lavrov made the allegation on Friday after a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), TASS reported.

“Today, we agreed to revitalise the SCO-Afghanistan contact group,” he said after the meeting in India’s picturesque city of Goa.

The contact group had not met for quite a long time, Lavrov said.

“The reason is the Americans are trying to interfere in Afghanistan’s affairs again. There is convincing evidence that the Americans support the terrorist groups remaining on the territory of Afghanistan and opposed to the Taliban.”

Also, Lavrov stated the Americans “do not abandon attempts to re-inject their military infrastructure into the region around Afghanistan and in Central Asia,” he alleged.

“Everyone is well aware of the most serious dangers that such attempts are fraught with,” he said, stressing Russia would firmly resist them.
