KABUL (Pajhwok): The Group of Seven (G-7) has asked the interim Afghan government to uphold its counterterrorism commitments and reverse restrictions on women.
The bloc of industrialised democracies asked the Afghan rulers to ensure the Afghanistan’s territory could not be used to threaten or attack any country, to plan or finance terrorist acts, or to shelter terrorists.
“We express our strongest opposition to the Taliban’s systematic violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms, and call for the immediate reversal of unacceptable decisions, especially those against women and girls.”
G7 leaders, who concluded their meeting in Hiroshima on Sunday, urged the caretaker administration in Kabul to initiate credible, inclusive and Afghan-led national dialogue, involving all Afghans.”
They noted with grave concern what they called increased threats to stability and the dire humanitarian and economic situation in Afghanistan.
All Afghans must enjoy full, equal and meaningful participation in all spheres of public life and have access to humanitarian assistance and basic services, the statement stressed.
The group called upon the Taliban to respect UNSCR 2681/2023 and the UN Charter, including Article 8, and to ensure smooth UN operations in Afghanistan.
