SHARANA (Pajhwok): Cannabis plant grown on about 100 acres of land has been destroyed in Dila district of southeastern Paktika province, an official said on Sunday.
Police spokesman Mohammadullah told Pajhwok Afghan News that anti-narcotics police destroyed the cannabis plant during a campaign launched a week ago in Dila district.
He added: “So far cannabis plant on 100 acres land has been cleared and the campaign is still ongoing because Dila is a large district.”
On the other hand, the Ministry of Interior wrote on its twitter page, that cannabis and poppy crops were destroyed on more than 100 acres of land in Paktika and Parwan provinces.
The ministry said the operations were carried out in Paktika's Dila and Saidkhel district of Parwan and the campaign was still ongoing.
The ministry also said anti-narcotics police had arrested eight people for selling drugs and alcohol in Kabul, Uruzgan, Khost and Parwan provinces.
The incumbent government has banned cultivation, purchase and sale of any kind of drugs in the country and violators are dealt with legally.
