TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Eighteen shopkeepers have been detained in the Gizab district of central Uruzgan province on the charges of using Pakistani rupees in their transactions, an official said on Thursday.
Information and Cultural Affairs Director Qari Agha Wali Qurashi told Pajhwok Afghan News the arrest was made on the recommendations of committee tasked to promote the use of local currency. He said the detainees shopkeepers would be referred to the court.
Qureshi added, the ongoing struggle for the promotion of Afghani in the province was series and violators were being dealt seriously.
The government announced several times that transactions in foreign currencies the country should be done only by Afghani and anyone who violated the order will be dealt accordance to law.
