243 projects worth 322m afs executed in Baghlan

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): As many as 243 development projects have been executed at a cost of 322 million afghanis in six different districts of northern Baghlan province.

Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director Abdul Wahid Obaida, said at an inauguration ceremony in Banu district 243 developments projects had been put into service across the province.

The schemes were carried out with financial support from the World Bank and technical cooperation from the Agha Khan Foundation (AKF) in Andarab, Dushi, Tala Wa Barfak and Khanjan districts.

The projects include the reconstruction of village roads, building of canals, culverts, water supply networks and retaining walls.

He said the projects, which were completed in a year, would benefit thousands of families.

Meanwhile, Abdul Matin Akhundzada, economy director for Baghlan, hoped the execution of the projects would have a positive impact on people's lives.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News 23,700 people were provided with employment opportunities in the village on these projects and more than 200,000 will directly benefit from them.

Maulvi Ibadullah Abid, a tribal elder from Andarab district, lamented uplift schemes had not been implemented in his area over the past many years. But now many projects have been completed, which will positively change people's lives.

Officials say similar projects will be implemented in the remaining eight districts of the province in the near future with financial support from the World Bank.
