TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Energy and Water Mullah Abdul Latif Mansour has visited northern Takhar province and inaugurated the Amu River’s Bank fortification work at the cost of six million afs in the Dasht-i-Qala district, an official said on Sunday.
The acting minister energy and water minister during his trip also inspected the ongoing fortification work in the Mawara-i-Kokcha districts region.
He said the fortification work of the Amu River’s bank was underway in Takhar, Kunduz, Balkh and Jawzjan provinces to ensure the protection of local residents and agriculture lands.
He assured that the fortification work will continue in every area which is being threatened by the river’s water.
Abdul Sammad, the resident of Durqad district, said: “We have a canal in our area which named as Taraki, during flood time the canal water over flow and eradicate our crops and caused huge troubles for the people.”
“We ask the government construct retaining walls for this canal as well which will benefit our lands,” he said.
Atta Mohammad, the Durqan District’s Development Council’s head, said fortification in Khawaja Bahauddin and Durqad district had not started due to which local residents and agriculture lands are facing huge threat.
