ATLANTA (Pajhwok): The Land-Grab Prevention and Restitution Commission (LGPRC) has arrested former lawmaker Mullah Tarakhel in Kabul, a credible source revealed on Thursday.

The source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the commission had summoned the then Wolesi Jirga member to the Ministry of Justice, where he was arrested.

Mullah Tarakhel, an influential individual, has been accused of land grab in different areas of Kabul.

However, MoJ has not yet commented on the detention of Tarakhel, but the commission met on Wednesday on usurped lands.

MoJ said in a statement members of LGPRC participated in the meeting, which conferred on cases involving thousands of acres of land grabbed in Kabul, Farah, Balkh and other provinces.

The commission decided 13,000 acres of state land in the Kharpalan area of western Farah province be thoroughly probed and over 750 acres of government land in Ghulaman locality separated from private property.

The commission also discussed nearly 2,000 acres of land in the Shakardara district of Kabul province and decided documents and information be sought from claimants and investigated.

The meeting also took up cases of over 16,000 acres of land in Balkh, Parwan and Logar provinces. This land was determined as state property and the commission issued necessary instructions in this regard.

Pajhwok tried to contact security organs about the arrest of Mullah Tarakhel, but no one responded to its calls.
