JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Construction of 70 houses for families returning from Pakistan has been launched near Torkham town in the second camp for refugees in eastern Nangarhar province.

The houses are being constructed to temporarily settle down the refugees waiting for their repatriation to provinces and receiving aid and each house will cost $2,200.

Nangarhar Governor Mullah Mohammad Naeem Akhund laid the foundation stone of the houses.

The houses are being built by Qamar Charity Foundation.

Almas Momand, head of the foundation, said 70 houses were being constructed in the camp. He said each house would have a boundary wall, a 6-by-4 living room, a kitchen and a bathroom and dwelling area.

He added each house would consume about 2,200 US dollars and would be built in a basic manner.

He said besides the houses, a mosque, seminary, health clinic, park and other related facilities would be constructed in the camp.

Two temporary camps have been set up for the returning families by the government near Torkham town, where the refugees will stay until they are registered and receive aid.
