KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Afghan refugee families who have recently returned from Pakistan to northern Kunduz province are complaining about lack of residential facilities and are asking the government and aid giving agencies to provide them with shelter before winter sets in.

Jumadin, one of the repatriated refugees who is currently living in Kunduz province, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was struggling with severe economic problems and could not afford to arrange shelter for his family.

He said: “Pakistan wronged us a lot, they stole everything from us and now we want the government and aid giving organizations to provide us shelters before winter arrives.”

Abdullah Jan, another returnee, held similar views and said the newly returning families faced many problems in the absence of shelter.

He said: “The newly arriving refugees are facing many difficulties, they do not have shelter and are in trouble economically, so the government should assist them.”

Some other returnees also made similar statements and asked the government to solve their problems.

Abdul Wali Mohammadi, Kunduz refugee and repatriation director, told Pajhwok about 2,500 families had arrived to the province through Torkham and Spin Boldak crossings during the past one month.

He said: “About 2,500 families have come to Kunduz in the past one month and we have 10,000 acres of land for them and once the supreme leader gives the call, we will distribute the land to the returnees.”

About 300,000 Afghan refugees have returned to the country from Pakistan since the expiry of the Nov 1, 2023 deadline.
