HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A four-day exhibition showcasing handicrafts made by women has commenced in this capital city of western Herat province.
Sponsored by ‘Rafah Organization for the Development of Afghanistan,’ the exhibition is aimed at exploring market for women’s handicrafts.
The participants were happy and said such exhibitions were beneficial to support women and provided them the opportunity to sell and introduce their products.
Rahima Haqshanas, one of the participants, told Pajhwok that Rafah Organization had been trying to support women and promote their handicrafts in Herat for the last several years.
She said she supported a family of six by making scarves and shawls.
She hoped the government would provide a marketing platform for their products.
Behnaz Saljuqi, the head of Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the western zone, said such exhibitions helped strengthen businesswomen.
She added women in Herat enjoyed business opportunities and many women were engaged doing different businesses.
Nasima Hashmi, an employee of Rafah Organization, who hosted the exhibition, said 120 women had displayed their handicrafts at the exhibition.
She said besides exploring market for women’s handicrafts another main purpose was to help displaced women.
Women’s handicrafts including carpets, food items, pottery, paintings, hats, women’s clothes and many other goods have been put on display at the exhibition.
