PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is constructing new buildings for 12 schools in the new academic year in central Logar province, an official said on Tuesday.
Logar Education Department spokesman Shahpur Arab told Pajhwok Afghan News these schools were located in Pul-i-Alam, Baraki Barak, Mohammad Agha and Charkh districts.
He said students of these schools were currently studying under the open sky or in rented houses.
He added: “New buildings would be constructed for these schools with financial support of UNICEF in the first six months of new academic year and their completion will facilitate about 120,000 students.”
There are about 74 schools without buildings and another 100 school buildings need reconstruction in the province, he explained.
Nasrullah, a teacher in the provincial capital, told Pajhwok construction of school buildings would resolve problems students currently faced.
He asked the Ministry of Education (MoE) to pay attention to construction of buildings for the rest of the schools.
There are 275 schools in Pul-i-Alam and districts, where 100,000 boys and 50,000 girls are being taught by 4390 teachers including 520 female teachers.
