KABUL (Pajhwok): Released five months ago from 25 years of illegal confinement, Nekbakht has passed away in Kabul.
In September last year, security personnel had rescued her from 25 years of captivity at the hands of her brothers.
Police spokesman Khalid Zadran said t Nekbakht had spent a month in hospital after being rescued.
He wrote on X the acting interior minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani, had appointed a special medical team for Nekbakht’s treatment. She was moved to a safe place after being discharged.
“Nekbakht was sent to hospital for check-up from time to time. She was getting better day by day. But on Sunday night, her condition deteriorated and she passed away on Monday morning at around 6:30am,” he added.
According to the police spokesman, Nekbakht was laid to rest in the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan area of the capital on Monday morning.
