KABUL (Pajhwok): The Qush Tepa National T20 Cricket Cup commenced in Kabul today (Wednesday).
The short-format event features five teams from the five zones of Afghanistan.
Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) officials unveiled the trophy at a news conference, at which captains of the competing squads asserted their readiness for the tournament.
Band-i-Amir captain Hashmatullah Shahidi called the competition a good opportunity for upcoming players, who should take advantage of it.
National team members will share their experiences with rising cricketers. Tips from seniors would be crucial for them, Shahidi commented.
Shahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News the absence of Afghanistan-A members, currently playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), would not dampen the event. Instead their absence would provide chances to juniors.
Bost skipper Najibullah Zadran said his squad was ready for the games. He hoped his boys would their skills and entertain spectators to exciting cricket.
Each of the competing teams included five or six national team members, who would share their experiences with junior players, he added.
Zadran thinks such matches are important for the players who aspired for participation in the ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to commence in June this year.
The captains of Mis Ainak, Speen Ghar and Amu — Ibrahim Zadran, Samiullah Shinwari and Sharafuddin Ashraf — also expressed their preparations for the event, which would conclude on May 13.
