Guterres: Unique level of death & destruction in Gaza

KABUL (Pajhwok): UN secretary-general has underlined the enormous scale of death destruction in Gaza in the past eight months of hostilities.

“We have witnessed…a unique level of destruction and…unique level of casualties in the Palestinian population during these months of war,” he said.

António Guterres, according to the UN News Centre, was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Global Leaders Forum in Geneva.

Before heading to the G7 Summit in Italy beginning on today (Thursday, he reiterated his deep concerns about the unequal distribution of wealth in the global economy.

Gutteres voiced solidarity with the people of Gaza and the global body’s deep commitment to the UN agency for Palestine refugees (UNRWA).

The UN chief noted it remained extremely difficult to support the embattled Palestinian population after the closure the vital Rafah border crossing in May.
