PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam-F chief has lashed out at the Pakistani defence minister’s threat of pounding alleged militant hideouts inside Afghanistan.
Maulana Fazlur Rahman said Khwaja Asif’s statement was aimed at covering up the failure of the government’s anti-terrorism operations in the country, the JUI-F chief commented.
In a recent interview with VOA, the defence minister had hinted at attacks on Pakistani Taliban’s alleged safe havens inside Afghanistan.
In reaction to Asif’s remarks, the Ministry of Defence in Kabul warned of consequences in case of any strikes and said they would not allow anyone to violate their sovereignty.
With the menace of terrorism rising once again in the country, people’s confidence in state institutions was declining, he told reporters in Islamabad on Sunday.
He advised all institutions, including the army, to remain in their domain as interference in political affairs was a violation of the Constitution.
