PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Islamabad has announced the launch of 4,500 scholarships for Afghan students to study social and natural sciences at Pakistani universities.
As part of an initiative to bolster ties with the neighbour, Pakistan unveiled the Allama Iqbal Scholarship programme for Afghan nationals in 2009.
Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan wrote on X: “Glad to launch the third phase of Allama Iqbal scholarships for Afghan students.”
Asif Durrani said: “In the coming five years, 4,500 Afghan students will pursue studies in social and natural sciences in various universities of Pakistan.”
The scholarship programme covers tuition fees, accommodation charges and monthly stipend for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies at Pakistani universities.
Separately, the National University of Technology (NUTECH) in Islamabad hosted a get together for Afghan students at its campus.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Special Representative for Afghanistan Asif Durrani and students from Afghanistan pursuing their zero semester at NUTECH and Fast University attended the event.
