KABUL (Pajhwok): A delegation from the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs has inspected official borders and the Durand Line in the three districts of northeastern Badakhshan province, a statement said on Sunday.
The ministry’s delegation headed by the Borders Inspection Department Director Engineer Ghulam Seddqi Sabawon has traveled to the Wakhan Valley, Zibak, Kuran wa Minjan districts of Badakhshan for inspection, study and evaluation purposes.
Without releasing more detail, the statement said the visiting delegation inspected the 2,461 km Durand line with Pakistan, the 434.62 km border with Tajikistan, the 92 km border with China and the 102 km Jammu and Kashmir.
The statement added: “The official conducted the study at time when no official visit has taken place to the area in the past three decades, Some important areas of the country such as Wakhan valley and Pamir were also studied during the trip of the delegation.”
The statement further describes the Pamir area as the roof of the world which has a high geopolitical and geostrategic importance too.
It was reiterated the statements of acting defense minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob who described the “Wakhan corridor as the head of Afghanistan and no one will be allowed to harm it.”
Wakhan is one of the most important districts of Badakhshan province which touches to imaginary Durand line, Jammu, Kashmir and Tajikistan, having hosted the high snowy Pamir mountains, it is also considered one of the significant sources of Amo river water.
