Haqqani: All weapons, military equipment in safe hands

KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Interior Sirajuddin Haqqani has assured that there are no forces in Afghanistan posing threat to the country, and that all weapons and military equipment are securely managed by security forces.

Haqqani made these remarks while addressing a gathering in Kabul to commend the security forces.

He termed the establishment of Sharia law, prevention of arbitrary actions and effective control of weaponry as key factors to maintaining lasting security in Afghanistan.

He clarified apart from beyond government entities, security companies, businesses, and individuals could legally carry weapons if they obtained proper licenses.

Haqqani praised 230,000 policemen and said professionalism and effective coordination between interior, defense and intelligence agencies were vital components of the country's stability.

Haqqani assured no forces, including insurgents, ‘Khawarij’ or ISIS could threaten Afghanistan's Sharia system.

He elaborated that from a jurisprudential and scholarly perspective, insurgents and Khawarij aimed to undermine Sharia law. Those committing destructive acts from undisclosed locations were enemies of the land.

He assured that all weapons and military equipment are under the control of responsible Mujahideen and security forces, adhering to official regulations.

He added there was no cause for concern about these weapons falling into irresponsible hands.

Haqqani called on the Afghans to support their police in maintaining security and urged the international community to assist them with equipment and support a professional police force.

He reassured all embassies, diplomatic missions, and institutions in the country that their safety was guaranteed by coordinated efforts of the police, defense, and intelligence forces.

Haqqani also appealed to Afghans living in exile who oppose the Sharia system to return and join their fellow citizens in supporting the country and its governance. He asserted that Afghanistan was the homeland of all Afghans, where their status and dignity were safeguarded.

Haqqani concluded by expressing a desire that the term "political opponents" should be replaced with "brothers" in the political discourse to reflect a unified Afghan identity.
