GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Some cultural activists in southern Ghazni province have said that cultural activities have been reduced recently, but officials refused the claim and said cultural gatherings were ongoing at a normal pace.
Cultural activists have linked the lack of cultural activities with economic problems faced by cultural associations.
Wahidullah Afghan, one of the cultural activists, said most cultural activities --- cultural gatherings, poetry gatherings, Ghazal nights and inaugurations of books take place regularly.
He said: “Economic problems have created distance between cultural activists and cultural activities; they tried to find a piece of bread for their children and stopped cultural activities.”
Sulaiman, another cultural activist, said that Ghazni is a historic and cultural province and here is need for more work to be done in his regard.
“In past years the Information and Cultural Department organised special programmes, it organised different cultural programems.”
Information and Cultural Department Director Mullah Hameedullah told Pajhwok Afghan News, cultural activities were important for them and all these activities were underway in a proper manner.
He said in every two weeks cultural and art programmes and small poetry programmes are being held.
He said on national and historic days special poetry programmes are held.
Three years ago, around 50 cultural associations were functional in the province but currently some associations are functional.
