KABUL (Pajhwok): At least six people were killed and 30 others injured after the Rehman Baba Express train derailed in Multan, Pakistan, on Tuesday, a media report said.

Geo News reported that the incident occurred at around 5:15am near the Sher Shah Bridge in Multan, with all 14 coaches of the train derailing.

The injured were shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan for treatment, while rescue teams continued operations at the accident site.

The train was travelling from Karachi to Peshawar.

Reacting to the incident, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed the relevant authorities to speed up rescue operations and ensure that the injured received the necessary medical treatment without delay.

Pakistan’s Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi also expressed sorrow over the incident and visited the site to assess the situation and review rescue operations.

He stated that compensation would be paid to the families of those killed and the injured under the railway’s insurance policy.

The cause of the derailment has not yet been officially established. However, a passenger claimed that nuts and bolts on the ninth coach had been repaired in Rohri before the incident.
