PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Municipality of northern Baghlan is planning to establish a special commercial market for women in the capital, Pul-i-Khumri.
In an interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Maulv Abdul Latif Mazloom, the mayor of Pul-i-Khumri, shared his vision about creating a conducive working environment for both large and small entrepreneurs.
He revealed several projects were in progress to support plans to set up a special business market for women. “This effort is aimed at promoting women's involvement in business and generating employment opportunities”.
Masooma Nazari, a resident of Pul-i-Khumri and owner of a small sewing factory, expressed enthusiasm for the new market.
She highlighted that many women in the province were engaged in sewing and needlework at homes and currently they lack access to essential facilities.
Nazari noted, "A special market for women will simplify the process of opening small businesses. It will greatly benefit both sellers and buyers by providing easier access to the market."
Suheela Ghazanfar, head of the women's handicraft room in Baghlan, echoed these sentiments. She pointed out the lack of a dedicated market for women's handicrafts in the province, which posed significant challenges.
Ghazanfar said, "The establishment of a special commercial market for women will not only increase the number of handicraft shops and female workers in Baghlan but also positively impact the buying and selling of goods."
The proposed market represents a significant step toward enhancing business opportunities for women in Pul-i-Khumri and fostering economic growth.
