Moscow format be changed into cooperation mechanism: Muttaqi

KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has suggested the Moscow Format mechanism should be changed into cooperation between Afghanistan and the region.

The 6th Moscow format consultative meeting on Afghanistan began on Friday in Moscow with the participation of representatives from ten neighboring and regional countries.

Zakir Jalali, third political director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, published a part Muttaqi’s speech on his X page.

He quoted Muttaqi as saying: “Before gaining independence, the Moscow format provided a platform for the Islamic Emirate to talk with influential countries in the region and beyond, which undoubtedly played an effective role.” Therefore, he continued, the Islamic Emirate had always participated in such meetings at a high level.

The foreign minister said in the past three years, they had been able to change the dominant tradition in Afghanistan from security to providing services to the people of Afghanistan, development, economic and investment affairs.

“I suggest this mechanism be changed into a process of cooperation between Afghanistan and the region in cooperation with the host country and the members of the Moscow format.”
