MAIMANA (Pajhwok): A building has finally been constructed for Tagab Heerak High School four decades after its establishment in the Chehelgazi district of northern Faryab province, local officials said on Monday.
The cost of the building was paid by a charity foundation with partial contribution from area residents, the officials added.
Education Director Maulvi Mohammad Tahir Jawad told Pajhwok Afghan News the building accounted for 2.5 million. It has seven classrooms, an office and a warehouse.
Previously, 700 students of the school studied under tents or trees. Their problem had eventually been addressed with the construction of the building, Jawad added.
Naqibullah Tahiri, a representative of the Qais Arghandiwal Charity Foundation, said locals had contributed 300,000 afs to the project.
Najibullah, the director of schools, recalled the school had been established in 1984. Its students had since studied in rented houses and under trees or tents.
He said: “On a daily basis, we would bring and take back school registers and other documents. The school had no room or other secure space for keeping such items over the past four decades.”
A major problem had been resolved, he said, adding the school still needed a boundary wall, a water supply system, textbooks and furniture.
Meanwhile, students welcomed the school building’s construction, urging the education department to pay serious attention to the issue of vacant positions of teachers, shortage of textbooks and furniture.
Ahmad Javed, a ninth grader, said the sizzling summer sun, chilly winter and shortages of teachers disturbed their concentration on studies.
He asked the education directorate to pay due attention to resolving their problems on priority.
