Sugar, liquefied gas prices up in Kabul markets

KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of Indian sugar and liquefied gas surged, but that of gold and diesel declined during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Saturday.

Food items

Zmarai Safi, head of the Food Traders’ Association, said the price of a 49-kilogram sack of Indian sugar went up from 2,400afs 2,450afs.

The rate of a 16-litre cooking oil bottle, however, remained unchanged at 1,700afs, of a 49-kilogram Kazakh flour sack at 1,450afs, with a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice staying unchanged at 2,600afs, a kilogram of African black tea at 400afs and the same amount of Indonesian green tea at 350afs.

Hamid Sufizada, a retailer at Dahna-i-Bagh Market, put the retail price of a 49-kilogram bag of Kazakh flour at 1,500afs, a 24-kg bag of Pakistani rice at 2,650afs and a 49-kg sack of Indian sugar at 2,500afs.

A 16-litre bottle of cooking oil accounted for 1,750afs, one kilogram of black tea for 400afs and the same quantity of green tea for 450afs, he added.

Fuel prices

A worker at the Ahmadyar pump station told Pajhwok the price of one litre of petrol stayed stable at 60afs, but the rate of diesel dropped from 59afs to 58afs.

Mohammad Sharif, a liquefied gas seller in Kolola Pushta neighborhood, said the price of a kilogram of the commodity increased from 488afs to 50afs.

Gold prices down

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweller in Timor Shahi area, said the price of one gram of Arabian gold went down from 4,850afs to 4,800afs and the same amount of the Russian variety from 3,850afs to 3,800afs.

Haji Hussain, owner of Sadaqat Money Exchange Service, said one US dollar was traded at 68afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 240afs.

Last week, one US dollar accounted for 68.10afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees for 240afs.
